If a vet consultation isn’t possible, start off with just one almond and then observe your dog over several days. Watch for any unusual behavior that could indicate pain or discomfort in the stomach. Pay attention when your dog goes to the bathroom to determine if there are any issues there as well.
If there are no adverse effects, try two almonds the next week as a treat. Again, watch for ill effects. If your dog experiences any ill effects from eating almonds, stop feeding them and consult your veterinarian.
Can Dogs Eat Almond Milk?
Many people have begun to switch from cow’s milk to almond milk or soy milk. If you’re one of these folks, you may wonder if it’s okay for your dog to eat almond milk. The truth is that while almond won’t hurt your dog, there aren’t really a lot of reasons for your dog to eat it. Almond milk is only about 2% almonds anyhow so most of the benefits of almonds aren’t even there.
But overall, the biggest concern about almond milk for your dogs is the extra calories. If your dog is not already overweight and you aren’t concerned about them having extra calories, then almond milk certainly won’t hurt them on occasion.
Which Nuts Are Bad for Dogs?
Although almonds may be okay for some dogs as an occasional treat, there are some nuts that you should avoid giving to dogs. Feeding a dog too many pistachios can lead to pancreatic problems. Pecans are dangerous not only because they can get stuck and result in an obstruction in the digestive system or intestines but also because they can cause seizures in your dog. Other nuts that have been known to result in neurological symptoms or seizures in dogs include macadamia nuts, black walnuts, and hickory nuts.
